Matt Katz Featured in Retail Dive “A timeline of how the pandemic hit retail”

Matt Katz, Managing Partner and Head of Retail & Consumer Packaged Goods shared his reflections regarding the impact of pandemic forces on the retail industry throughout the past year with Retail Dive. Matt refers to the beginning stage of the pandemic as an “immediate triage” for retail noting, “Revenue streams stopped, furloughs were contemplated, cost reduction activities began, rent abatement and furloughs began. The second quarter was all about cost control and understanding the potential impact.”

He continues on to look at how challenges for retailers have evolved over the pandemic’s duration stating, “This is a health issue that became a social concern, which became an economic issue. And so the reason why this recovery is such a start and stop is because you’ve got to get all three of these vectors, or all three of these items, moving forward in a positive way.”
