A leading oil sands producer was approaching its annual plant shutdown, an event requiring $80M in spend and 3+ weeks of significantly reduced production.
The company needed help to identify areas to significantly reduce the full plant turnaround time in order to reduce costs and realize improved production.
Approach
Reviewed shutdown worklist to identify critical path scope and key work orders
- Developed pre-approved repair plans for common repairs to minimize repair plan turnaround time
- Minimized cleaning scope based on optimized inspection plan
- Identified 144 work orders to be deferred from event due to low priority
Optimized schedule and aligned focused resources to the critical path scope
Results
Reduced turnaround time from 23 days to 16 days
Realized 1,120 Kb of net annual production uplift
Reduced cost of overall shutdown event by $26.5M
