Could Savers Value Village Save the IPO Market?

The for-profit thrift store, Savers’ successful offering is another sign of a thaw in the market for fresh stocks. Matt Katz discusses the recent increase in fashion IPO activity in this WWD article.

Matt analyzes the recent IPO upsurge, “The push for IPOs is not a fashion or consumer phenomenon. It’s more of a market opportunity, a market timing phenomenon. In some cases, the investors who bought into the sector at big multiples years ago have simply reset.”

He explains, “Traders who bet on the consumer market in 2021 might still like the bet
and be willing to jump back in with lower prices today. The ‘follow’ society is pretty strong. If somebody sees something successfully, we’re always looking at the me-too, ‘How do I get some opportunity with that?’”
